It’s amazing after all the regulation introductions and changes in building control over the past few years that people are still being duped into buying uncertified products. In 2011 it became compulsory that all Septic Tanks, Wastewater Treatment Plants and other related products are EN certified and tested as a complete entity. Selling a tank with some parts CE marked does not mean it’s certified. All tanks go through a 39 week test in a certified test house and must meet a minimum standard to pass for sale.
All Septic Tanks must be certified and tested to EN12566: Part 1 & Wastewater Treatment Plants must be certified to EN12566: Part 3
Each tank tested is shown on a physical cert like the one shown here, this confirms the system has passed so you or your assigned certifier/engineer can confirm you are getting the model you paid for and need, to be in compliance. BOD % reduction is also shown to confirm whether a Wastewater Treatment Plant conforms to 95% or 97.5% treatment efficiency.
All of these things are in place to protect you the customer, to provide you with a quality product that works. Compliance could become a big issue if you decide to sell your house at a later date, the purchasers solicitors will make an issue of it and reduce the price accordingly if the system is wrong.
Don’t become a victim, if in doubt ask for a cert!!
